How long do verification codes last?

There is no standard, but most email codes are valid for somewhere between a few minutes and an hour.

  • One-time codes: often 5 to 15 minutes.
  • Magic links: often 15 minutes to an hour.
  • Account-activation links: sometimes a day or more.

Why short

A short life limits how long a stolen or leaked code can be used.

If it expired

Request a new one. Doing so usually invalidates the previous code, so use the newest message.
