Agents need email for the same reason people do: to receive codes, confirmations and replies. The question is whose inbox.

Giving an agent read access to your mailbox exposes everything in it, including private mail, and any message could try to instruct the agent.
A separate account is safer but needs provisioning, passwords and cleanup for each use.
The agent asks for a fresh inbox, uses it for one task and forgets it. Nothing sensitive is ever stored there, and mail expires on its own.
It would expose all your mail to the agent and to anything that can email you.
